The Nile is the longest river in the world and stretches over 4,100 miles. It is located in South Africa, and runs through many African countries, (Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi etc). Crops |
The Egyptians thought of the land being divided into two types of areas, the "black land" and the "red land". The "black land" was the fertile land. It was located near the Nile river. They used this land to grow crops, because a layer of rich black silt was deposited every year, it was the only land that can successfully have crops grown in it. The "red land" was the barren desert. This land protected Egypt from other countries and invading armies. It also provided precious metals and stones.
